Achieve Four Hours of Deep Sleep in One Hour

Padma Yoga, in Palm Coast, will host two complimentary Yoga Nidra sessions from 7 to 8 p.m. on February 12 and 19, both in person and virtually on Zoom. “These hour-long classes will help you begin your weekend stress-free, with an open heart and peaceful mind,” says Micki Higgins, founder of Padma Yoga.

According to Higgins, anyone can practice yoga nidra. “You can’t do it incorrectly,” assures this passionate yogini, who enjoys teaching others this form of yoga, commonly referred to as yogic sleep. “This powerful meditation technique is one of the easiest yoga practices to develop and maintain.”

During a yoga nidra session, the practitioner rests in savasana (corpse pose) while the yoga instructor systematically guides them through a meditation that promotes a profound state of rest and relaxation. “It is widely known that one hour of yoga nidra is equal to four hours of deep, restful sleep,” says Higgins. “The stages of body scan and breath awareness alone can be practiced to calm the nervous system, leading to less stress and better health.”

In-person class size limited to six participants due to social distancing; attendees must register in advance. Masks may be removed once on the mat. No preregistration required for Zoom. Location: 5 Utility Dr., Ste. 15. For more information, call 386-225-4733 or 904-377-4217, or visit PadmaYogaOnline.com.
